Staying on the theme of keeping our hands on the keyboard in Eclipse, here’s a productivity tip for navigating through IDE tree elements like the Package Explore, Search Results and Method Reference displays.
Whenever you’re working with a tree widget like the Method Reference display below (the equivalent of IntelliJ’s “Find Usages”), the Ctrl-Shift Left/Right keyboard shortcut expands and contracts the parent objects to quickly zero-in on where you want to go. (Then click [ENTER] and the source location displays in the Editor.)
Remember the keyboard shortcut when in the Package and Project Explorer, too. Each additional Ctrl-Shift Left/Right will expand the tree listing another branch.
Now THAT’S expansive!
