Disabling Java_Options On Java Console Apps in Linux

When you create a Hello World console app you want to see “Hello World!” and nothing more. But a surprise “Picked up JAVA_OPTIONS” message appears first, darn it!

This message is originating from your Linux VM environment settings when the app fires up. One place those settings can be located is in your .bashrc file.

If you can incorporate the options elsewhere and remove them from .bashrc the message will disappear. If you need to retain the “export _JAVA_OPTIONS” command in your .bashrc then I can’t help you. Sorry. Please tell me how you solve it with the comment link! :)

If you’re using IntelliJ IDEA you can add your options to your idea.vmoptions or idea.64vmoptions file depending on your environment.
