Moving a Selection Area in Gimp

If I had a “Posts For Me” category on this blog, this post would fit the bill cause I'll probably be pulling it up in the future when I forget how to move a selection area in Gimp.

Here's Gus, our selection.

We don't want to move Gus, just the selection area. Here is the magical key combination.

CTRL-ALT-MOUSE

You'd think that would be the end of the story, but behavior is based on the tool selected. If the Rectangular Select Tool is selected as shown below we move Gus.

Notice at the top of the left-hand toolbar how the Rectangular Selection is highlighted? Like I said, we don't want to move Gus, just the selection area. To move the Selection we need to be sure the Move Tool is selected as shown in the toolbar below.
